The NTS Boxborough facility is hosting an all day event consisting of a technical training seminar and open house. Sponsored by IEEE Boston EMC Chapter and Wurth Electronics Midcom, the day will start off with presentations on Lightning Technology and Reverberation Chamber Technology. In the afternoon, live demonstrations and tours of the NTS Boxborough facility will be provided and followed by presentations on Entering New Markets and the Essentials of EMC.

About the Presenters

Ed Rupke
Senior Engineer
NTS Pittsfield

As the senior engineer for NTS Pittsfield (formerly Lightning Technologies), Ed is involved on a daily basis in the research, development, and testing of systems and structures directed at providing lightning protection. As a result of these tests, Ed then provides design recommendations, consulting, and certification to commercial and government clients in support of their test programs.

Ed has 26 years experience in the study of lightning hazards and development of protection methods for aircraft and ground based facilities and has an extensive background in composite aircraft certification programs for lightning effects. He has led and participated in numerous lightning certification programs involving the integration of electronic systems into composite airframes, as well as a full-scale aircraft testing, qualification testing of advanced avionics and p-static simulation techniques for externally mounted aircraft systems.

Instructor for ‘Lightning Protection of Aircraft’, an on-site 4.5 day course offered twice a year including lightning effect demonstrations and networking opportunities.

Garth D'Abreu
Director Automotive Solutions

Due to his considerable industry experience, Garth is the ETS-Lindgren global subject matter expert responsible for the on-going research and development of Automotive EMC/Wireless test chambers for Regular, Electric and Hybrid Electric Vehicles, focusing on combination anechoic chambers, reverberation chambers, GTEM cells, EMP protection applications and wireless device test systems.

Based out of ETS-Lindgren's headquarters office, Cedar Park, Texas, Garth's primary responsibility is the design and development of worldwide functions and turn-key solutions used for Automotive EMC and Wireless test integrations. Working from within the Systems Engineering group, Garth coordinates some of the more complex vehicle and electronic sub-assembly test chambers across other business groups including the RF engineering team on custom components, and the certified, internal Building Information Modeling team at ETS-Lindgren.

Garth is a member of the IEEE EMC Society and active participant in standards development, including the SAE, ISO and CISPR D automotive EMC standards; has over 25 years of experience in the RF industry and holds a BSc degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering, from North London University, UK.

Doug Toth, PE
Field Application Engineer
Wurth Electronics Midcom

Doug has over 20 years of experience covering a wide range of ferrite materials and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC). Presently, a Field Application Engineer with Wurth Electronics Midcom Inc., Doug has worked in many electronic environments and held positions varying in responsibility including Design Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, and Applications Engineer.

Over the last several years, Doug has traveled throughout the United States, Mexico, and Brazil, presenting EMC seminars on general EMI information, certain material types and grades used for suppression, as well as filtering circuits for lowering signal frequency noise.

Doug is a Professional Engineer, registered in the state of New Jersey since 1996 and is also a member of IEEE, IES-NA, and SCTE.

Caio Collet-Silva
International Approvals Manager
NTS Silicon Valley

Caio is NTS’s International Approvals Manager and has been in the international regulatory industry for more than 10 years. Caio’s broadening expertise in the area of international approvals has been through his experience of working with over 100+ countries supporting a number of manufacturers in obtaining international approvals (certificates, type approvals, exemption letters, etc.,) for multiple types of products (IT, home appliances, others with telecom/radio interfaces).

Prior to joining NTS, Caio has worked for a Brazilian government lab performing safety, EMC and telecom testing, then a Brazilian certification body working on ANATEL approvals followed by international approvals; helping foreign manufacturers obtain Brazilian approvals (INMETRO, ANATEL and ANVISA). Caio hasn’t veered away from the world of compliance testing after getting his first job following his graduation where he earned a degree in engineering.
