NTS (formerly Sci-Lab) in Kitchener, Ontario is seeking a Test Engineering Associate or Technician. You must be hands-on and mechanically inclined and adaptable. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

• Physical and materials tests including environmental simulation, durability, tensile, impact, shock, corrosion, vibration, microscopes, data acquisition, signal conditioners and other industry specific testing – Extensive training will be provided
• Assist with materials and product testing including vibration and durability tests, and depending on aptitude, may also design/build modular durability test stands with instrumentation
• Testing of a variety of materials and products including, plastics, metals, automotive, military, aerospace and electronics components and products
• Set-up and verification of test equipment as required
• Review of technical test specifications for Military/Aerospace/Electronics/Automotive (depending on background) including vibration, shock, durability and simulation testing
• Test notes and record keeping with attention to detail per Quality Assurance Manual and Standard Operating Procedures
• Generating Final Reports (from standard template) and computer data entry and Final Report generation – MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and Contact Management System
• Project Management with good understanding of quality systems and procedures in an accredited laboratory.
• Project and technical time tracking via computerized time management system with accurate time recording and allocation. All tasks to be estimated with clear due dates prior to commencing.
• Assistance and support for team to ensure daily corporate testing and reporting commitments are full-filled per required timing.
• Adherence and contribution to NTS/Sci-Lab Quality System and Standard Operating Procedures as assigned.
• Project Review Includes Sample types, quantities, handling and labeling requirements, due date and required test parameters
• Assist with materials and product testing including vibration and durability tests, and depending on aptitude, may also design/build modular durability test stands with instrumentation
• Identification of goal (s) or objectives for testing and test scheduling with attention to primary and long-term tests. All testing tasks to have an estimated time for completion
• Coordinating tests with other engineers and/or scientists as required
• Light sample machining and coordination with machine shops for more extensive machining and fixture builds
• Documentation of issues with notes and reference specifications
• Equipment set-up, verification and data documentation
• Sample testing to SOP or specified test method
• Data recording including set-up photos, raw data and electronic data filing with test observations (Lab notebook and electronic data)
• Data review and interpretation, including identifying/recognizing anomalous or objectionable results
• Test time tracking for cost reconciliation (i.e., record how long each test took)
• Final report generation and formatting
• Peer Review of failing results and final reports before submission to customer
• Lab and test area organization for a safe and productive environment
• Completion of assigned operation issues and notification for ordering of low supplies

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Must be a Canadian Citizen and able to pass a Police Records Check and Security Assessment
• Experience in physical and/or materials testing including environmental simulation, durability, tensile, impact, shock, corrosion, vibration, microscopes, data acquisition, signal conditioners and/or other industry specific testing OR we will consider experience testing of a variety of materials and products including, plastics, metals, automotive, military, aerospace and electronics components and products OR we will consider someone with a strong mechanical aptitude and 2 years of mechanical experience (i.e., machine shop, automotive repair, military avionics, etc.)
• Mechanical assembly and disassembly
• Some controls working knowledge
• Working with small tools, band saw, drill press, compressed air and industrial tools in a safe and organized manner
