Job Description:

NTS in Pittsfield, MA is seeking an Electrical Engineer. This is an opportunity to join a highly regarded company with a world-wide reputation for excellence in our technology areas.  Successful candidates will have the opportunity to “think outside the box” and suggest clever solutions to unusual protection design constraints, and to oversee a project’s progress from planning to completion.  LTI/NTS performs research, design, test, consulting and training for protection of a wide variety of systems against the hazards of lightning and other electrical phenomena, especially to the aircraft and aerospace, defense, and alternative energy industries.  We are considered by many to be the world leaders in lightning protection design and simulated lightning protection verification testing. Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship and possess 2-5 years electrical engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Electro-magnetics, transients in electric circuits, high voltage phenomenology, ionization processes, electric power engineering OR we will consider entry level candidates with major study experience in one or more of the following areas:  Electro-magnetics, transients in electric circuits, high voltage phenomenology, ionization processes, electric power engineering

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Simulated lightning tests on structures and electronic systems at our laboratories in Pittsfield, Massachusetts as well as at customer’s facilities
  • Research into electrical properties of advanced materials on air vehicles in low and high altitude environments
  • Calculations of electric and magnetic fields and interactions with systems
  • Design of protection for a wide variety of air vehicles, ground facilities, and systems
  • Preparation of test and analysis reports and design guidelines
  • Preparation of certification plans to address airworthiness authority, IEC  or industrial requirements and standards

Required Education/Skills/ Experience:

  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and DMV and Background check
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • 2-5 years electrical engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Electro-magnetics, transients in electric circuits, high voltage phenomenology, ionization processes, electric power engineering OR we will consider entry level candidates with major study experience in one or more of the following areas:  Electro-magnetics, transients in electric circuits, high voltage phenomenology, ionization processes, transients in electric circuits, electric power engineering
  • Interest in hands-on laboratory test work and ability to document technical results in good English is very important to success in these positions
  • Ability to communicate in person is equally important, since the results of our work must be discussed frequently with our clients
  • Must be willing to travel, including internationally

Desired Experience:

  • Teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: Electro-magnetics, transients in electric circuits, high voltage phenomenology, ionization processes, electric power engineering, is desirable, as we offer periodic training courses in these technologies
  • Ability to apply the first principles of physics to understand and predict lightning effects is important to success
  • Skills in numerical simulations using PSPICE, ANSOFT, COMSOL, or similar computational tools are desirable
